£50m aircraft facility at Teesside Airport to create 250 jobs
Alfor Aviation has agreed a £50m deal to build a new aircraft conversion campus at Teesside International Airport, in what the Tees Valley Combined Authority describes as a 50-year commitment to the site.
The company will refit aircraft at the facility and relocate its global headquarters to Teesside. Around 250 permanent high-skilled jobs are expected once the campus is operational, with a planned start date at the end of 2027.
What it means for construction
Before the first aircraft arrives, the site needs building. Construction of hangars, warehouses and engineering offices is due to begin soon, which means a pipeline of work for groundworkers and builders, steel erectors, cladders, roofers, electricians and scaffolders across the region over the next 18 months.
Large industrial builds at the airport and the nearby Teesworks site are increasingly competing for the same pool of local trades, and main contractors on both have been recruiting locally.
The bigger picture
The deal is the latest in a run of investments anchored on Teesside's industrial corridor, alongside the Net Zero Teesside power and carbon capture projects at Teesworks and continued development at Teesport. For trade businesses, the region's order book for industrial and commercial work is the strongest it has been in years.
